I had a claim last year. Does that affect my XS Direct premium ? [ Saturday, January 13, 2007 ]

Past, present or future claims have absolutely no impact on our pricing and unlike most car insurance companies in Ireland we accept drivers with outstanding claims up to any amount.

Does my XS Direct premium go up if I have a claim ? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

We guarantee we don't put your premium up if you claim. That's a guarantee a lot of other insurance companies don't give when you read the small print, even with their bonus protection products.

Do XS direct apply special loadings for claims? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

Many other insurance have special loadings if they dislike the number of claims made by a policyholder or the particular events surrounding a claim. These loadings can even be applied to clients that have spent money on bonus protection. We do not load for claims in any circumstance because we want our products to be fully transparent.

Do I have to pay for bumps and scrapes myself ? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

Every driver on the road does that anyway rather than losing their bonus. All we've done is make everything transparent and allow drivers that get penalised heavily by the bonus system start with a clean slate.

How does a high Excess policy save me money? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

Think of it this way. You've got a definite saving. The Excess is only if you are unfortunate enough to have a claim. And in that case, the Excess should be compared with the real cost of a claim with another insurance company. We use a simple rule of thumb, losing your full bonus with another company costs up to three times your premium.

How likely is it I'll have a claim ? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

If you look at the stats for drivers aged over 25, only 1 in 20 drivers is unfortunate enough to have to make a claim costing over 1000 Euros.

Who is this policy for ? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

XS Direct is competitive for drivers over 25 paying high premiums because they only have a zero, one or two or Year Bonus, particularly those driving high end cars. Drivers on their first policy, leaving a fleet policy, coming back from abroad or insuring a second car are penalized by the bonus system even when they haven't made a claim.

Is there a minimum car value XS Direct will insure ? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

Yes, because we have a high excess, drivers with cars under €5,000 in value or cars over 10 years old less than €10,000 in value are not suitable for this type of policy. We would recommend a Third Party Fire & Theft policy for cars of that value.

Do penalty points affect my premium? [ Sunday, January 14, 2007 ]

No. We have seen no evidence that penalty points indicate a greater risk. In the UK, the experience has been that as drivers get penalty points, they drive more safely. So for the moment our intention is not to load for penalty points.
